Winter Market to open February 4th
Organizers with the Downtown Farmers’ Marketplace had been gearing up for the past few weeks to host a special Winter Market in January at the new downtown campus for WVU at Parkersburg. However, with it being so close to the holidays, organizers have rescheduled the Winter Market grand opening for Saturday, February 4th. The Market will be open from 10am to 2pm on the first Saturday of each month (February-May).

“We’re still getting a lot of interest from prospective vendors and support from the community,” said Rickie Yeager, Planning Administrator for the City of Parkersburg. “To ensure we put our best foot forward, the decision was made to postpone the Market’s grand opening to the first Saturday in February.” When the Market opens next month, it will host a variety of local vendors, as well as showcase local artisans and entertainers in the community.

“Although this is the first time we’ve tried something like this,” said Ann Conageski Development for the City of Parkersburg, “we know Winter Markets are becoming increasingly popular around the country.” Since 2010, the number of Winter Markets has increased by 38 percent according to a press release issued by the United Stated Department of Agriculture on December 15th 2011. Winter Market’s are popular weekend destinations in many communities, so we’re excited about offering the same opportunity to Parkersburg residents. If successful, organizers will consider increasing the number of Saturday’s the Market is open in downtown Parkersburg.
